Professional networking is:
- The process of gathering information to expand your knowledge about

a career field, company, job function, graduate school program, or new geographic location.
- The development of a professional support system that will assist you

and provide you with helpful career information as you mature as a professional, and/or engage in a job search or career change.

Networking may, and often does, lead to concrete outcomes including job leads, career mentorship, etc.

Each of us has the responsibility to strive to reciprocate helpful information and advice as we move along our career path.  A group like this can be particularly helpful because individuals often find that connecting with people with whom they share something in common is less stressful than "cold calling" and may lead to a more productive exchange of information.
