Biblical Hebrew: Join in learning the art of translating biblical Hebrew. Hebrew needed for this first half-hour only.
Deuteronomy: Rabbi Wildstein and Rabbi Judith Kummer, as well as some of our students, teach this year-long course on twenty Monday evenings. This is a unique opportunity to explore the threads of our heritage in a top-notch course. How do a few words written thousands of years ago inform our beliefs today? Engage yourself in the age-old and thoroughly modern practice of midrash. In 5770, we will be investigating topics in the book of Deuteronomy along with related commentary. This is our last year in this cycle of Torah and Midrash study. So, if not now, when? If not you, then who? Examples include: the Ten Commandments; relationships to the land of Israel; Moses’ perspectives at the end of his life; and issues surrounding Moses’ death. No prior experience required; new participants welcome. All are welcome to audit the first three classes. E-mail Connie Rizoli, connie.rizoli@gmail.com to enroll or with questions. Rabbi Kummer is Director of the Jewish Chaplaincy Council of Massachusetts.

The group will present an authentic re-creation of a Friday night service as it might have occurred in 17th-century Italy, featuring the liturgical works of Salamone Rossi Hebreo, the first known composer of Jewish choral music. On Sunday, a demonstration/lecture will explore Rossi’s life and works in historical and musical context, with brunch by Brotherhood.
