Disaster Relief Giving
Wherever human beings are suffering, we Jews empathize. Following the Tsunami in South East Asia or Hurricanes in the southern United States, we respond generously to help those who are threatened by disease, homelessness and lack of basic necessities. We reach out to the victims of genocide in Darfur, Sudan, and to those starving in Niger.
As our Torah reminds us
“Do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor”
– Leviticus 19:16
In the face of a disaster, the best way that we can help is to contribute funds to those who have the experience to provide direct aid at disaster sites. We therefore strongly urge members of Temple Beth David to make generous contributions to any of the following Jewish or general organizations which are marshalling efforts to aid those in need around the globe.
