A Message From Your Rabbis
We are taught in Pirkei Avot, "You are not obligated to finish the work, but neither are you free to neglect it." It is with great sadness that we have watched the events of the last week unfold throughout our country. We decry the racial injustice, hate and violence that continues to endure in our nation. We hope you will join us in reaching out to your African American friends, neighbors, colleagues and family, and promoting change. Please read below the Union for Reform Judaism statement on racist killings, along with valuable actions our community can take to stand up for racial equality and justice. L'Shalom, Rabbi Karen and Rabbi Micah Citrin

Dear Temple Beth David Community, I am deeply grateful for your warmth and kindness this year. It has been an honor to serve as your rabbinic intern and I have enjoyed getting to know many of you over these past nine months. I am inspired by the ways you care about each other and show up to learn and pray together, even on zoom. Thank you for welcoming me this year -- I have truly learned a lot from this internship and am so glad I had the opportunity to journey with you all for a while. I want to say a special thank you to Rabbi Karen and Rabbi Micah, for your guidance, feedback, and encouragement. I am inspired by the strength and gentleness of all the ways you hold this community, from physically and logistically to emotionally and spiritually. This Sunday I will be rabbinically ordained by Hebrew College. The ceremony is at 2 pm online, and you are all invited! The link will be posted here the morning of: https://hebrewcollege.edu/commencement-ordination/ On June 12, my partner Kendra and I will move back to Oakland, California. I am excited to be starting a chaplaincy residency at California Pacific Medical Center this fall. I will be working as a spiritual care provider on their hospital campuses. As we all continue to mostly shelter in place and live day by day without knowing what is coming, I will be holding this community in my heart. May you be fortified by the strength of community. May you continue to show up for each other with courage, kindness, and generosity. And may you have a wonderful upcoming year, with a new rabbinic intern by your side! Warmly, SAM

Temple Beth David has been a wonderful support for our Jewish neighbors who are living with food insecurity. Our donations of canned salmon and whole grain pasta are combined with donations from other congregations to provide much needed supplies to families in need. With the pandemic, there is a greater than ever need for food. Here is how you can help! Place an order on Amazon from the Family Table Wish list via this link. (Quantities of 12 cans or 8 boxes are more helpful and less wasteful than delivery of single items). Be sure to have items shipped to the JF&CS Waltham location: 1430 Main Street, Waltham MA 02451 If you are able and willing to do delivery of food to families in need, either from Waltham or Canton, please contact Lisa Katz. Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support in this difficult time!
If you are interested in making a future gift to the L'Dor V'Dor Endowment Fund, or you have made arrangements for TBD in your estate plan, please contact Immediate Past President Paul Greenberg.
