“Who Is The God Of Jewish Prayer? Searching for the Divine Metaphor in Jewish Worship”

On the High Holidays, the primary divine metaphors in the Machzor are rather clear: God is Avinu, “Our Father,” Malkeynu, “Our King” and Daiyanenu, “Our Judge.” With the help of Rabbi Paul Citrin’s (father of Rabbi Micah) new book, I Am My Prayer, we will try to identify the divine metaphors and their implications in the siddur, the daily and Sabbath prayer book. At the same time we will explore the structure of daily and Sabbath prayer and seek to identify any divine metaphors therein.

This class will take place via Zoom.
