All School Tu Bishvat Seder During Shorashim on Sunday, February 9, 10:45-11:30 am Though it might be snowing here, in Israel spring is around the corner and the leaves are beginning to show buds! We’ll gather to celebrate the New Year of the Trees. The Kabbalists created a beautiful ritual for Tu Bishvat, a special seder experience including tasting a variety of fruits of the earth, 4 cups of colored wine/grape juice representing the 4 seasons, and sharing stories of trees. A joyful, musical gathering for all ages, with an emphasis on Tikkun Olam, repairing our world. We especially need parent/adult volunteers to help with set up. Please use this linkto sign up to lend a hand and to contribute a few items. Siblings and other family members are welcome; just let us know how many are coming. As part of the B'nai TELEM (Boston area service-learning program), the 6th graders learned about the value of literacy and mitzvah of helping children read. They were surprised to learn that, "Two-thirds of American classrooms have fewer than 50 children's books and almost 60% of childcare centers buy fewer than one book per child per year" (JCRC Literacy Coalition Manual). In this spirit, the 6th grade class is holding a book drive through the month of January. Please donate new or gently used children's books for a general audience. Books will be donated to the Cradles to Crayons organization. They are highly in need of books for ages 8-12. Baby board books are also welcome. We all have books sitting on our shelves at home - let another child love them!
4th Grade Clothing Drive
Fourth grade is learning about "Middot - Jewish Values to Live By." Please support our 4th graders by contributing to their clothing drive for Cradles to Crayons! Cradles to Crayons is a non-profit organization that provides local children ages 0-12 with clothing and other basic essentials. You can bring new and gently used children's clothes to the donation bins here at Temple Beth David. Donations are welcome through Sunday, February 9. Winter clothing is especially welcome!
