We are so proud of the students (and all of you!) for their resilience this year. Today is Yom Ha'Aztmaut, Israel's Independence Day. This past Sunday students enjoyed a brief "Israel Tour" outdoors, which included a plane trip, and stops in modern day Tel Aviv, the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem, and an archeological dig in the sandbox/playground. See some pictures here!
Israel is complex and we aim to make the learning age-appropriate. Younger grades engaged with symbols and pictures, 3rd grade looked more closely at the Israeli flag, 4th grade made creative topographical maps of Israel, 5th grade completed their Jewish communities around the world projects and continue to engage with peers at our partner school in Haifa, 6th graders learned about the diversity of the early Zionist movement in historical context, and everyone learned Hatikvah (the national anthem meaning "The Hope").
