Hopefully you saw our message to fellow parents last week. We hope this note is finding you as well as can be during these uncertain times.
We have been consulting with many people and colleagues as we shape our plans for Shorashim and Double Chai this year. Shorashim is scheduled to begin the week of September 13.
Temple Beth David has several factors that are conducive to reopening the building to children - we are a relatively small program that meets for a short amount of time, we are blessed with a spacious building with expansive indoor and outdoor space (and now new playground area) including rooms with large windows that open, and we have a flexible staffing structure. We understand the concerns about online learning especially for younger children and increased screen time for kids. Any in person option would adhere to current state health and safety guidelines including masks.
Social distancing of at least 6 feet is very doable within our small group Hebrew classes, individual tutoring, and Double Chai teen program. These aspects of our program are also more easily adaptable online. If there is the need to transition fully online, the Hebrew schedule will remain similar (not like last spring).
The bigger challenge for us is Sunday mornings, when we typically have the most amount of people in the building. Last week we sent a brief survey for parents of children in Grades K-6, which addresses the Sunday morning/weekend experience. Any possible in person Shorashim Sunday session will look different. We are thinking as creatively as possible! Please complete this surveyTODAY. THANK YOU!
Please reach out to us with ideas and feedback, and any other questions or concerns on your mind. We know this is all evolving. Remote only options will also be available. Please email Rabbi Karendirectly if you prefer remote only for your child/ren.
As we continue to shape our Jewish education programs and Temple community for the year, we are committed to the following: everyone's physical and mental health, flexibility and adaptability, affirmation of your comfort level and choices for your family, support for students with special learning needs, meaningful resources for parents, and learning experiences that uplift our spirits, foster peer and communal connections, and focus on making our lives and our world better.

We miss you and hope to see you again soon. You are also welcome to contact Wendy Berliner, VP of Education, or Caron Murstein and Dina Filosi Zoob, Co-Chairs Shorashim Education Commitee.
With wishes for Shalom - peace and wholeness, Rabbi Karen and Rabbi Micah Citrin
