The letter Tzadee makes the sound "tz" like in pizza. Tzedakah is an important Jewish value and mitzvah. It comes from the word "tzedek" meaning justice or righteousness or doing the right thing. We live this value when we give to others such as money or food or helping someone to help themselves. Next weekend we will remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his work to advocate for social justice and righteousness.

6th Grade Book Drive
As part of the B'nai TELEM (Boston area service-learning program), the 6th graders learned about the value of literacy and mitzvah of helping children read. They were surprised to learn that, "Two-thirds of American classrooms have fewer than 50 children's books and almost 60% of childcare centers buy fewer than one book per child per year" (JCRC Literacy Coalition Manual). In this spirit, the 6th grade class is holding a book drive through the month of January. Please donate new or gently used children's books for a general audience. Baby board books are also welcome. Books will be donated to the Cradles to Crayons organization. We all have books sitting on our shelves home - let another child love them!
