Elective Information
First Hour 8th-12th only
Midrash: The Fan Fiction of Torah - SAM Luckey Did you know that Jewish tradition has it’s own fan fiction. It’s called Midrash. These stories within the stories of the Torah fill in the gaps. Was Eve really the first woman, what if she wasn’t? How did Abraham know that there was only one God? What did Isaac think when his father Abraham was going to sacrifice him on Mt. Moriah? Was Rachel jealous when her sister Leah married Jacob first? Find out how this fan fiction makes Torah come alive and answers questions about God, family, and friendship. We will study these creative, imaginative—and sometimes wild— texts built from the book of Genesis and may even write some of our own.
Ask the Rabbi - Rabbis Citrin What started as a Wild Card Wednesday choice is now an elective! Bring your questions about Jewish traditions, God, Torah, Israel, or what Judaism has to say about current events. We will discuss different Jewish perspectives and you get to add your own. With this elective any question is welcome.
Second Hour - 7th -12th (MAKE SURE TO RANK YOUR CHOICES 1-3)
Jewish Music: Voice, Rhythm and Song - SAM Luckey Each week we will build our vocal and rhythmic skills and learn a new song or melody from the rich world of Jewish music. We will learn tunes that can be found on YouTube, listen to different kids of music, make arrangements of songs and build our own Jewish play list. Beginner and more experienced singers and percussionists are all welcome!
Multi-Media Judaism: An Artistic Approach - Josh Conescu What if we could experience Judaism as an art form, better yet many different art forms? Use photography, paint, sculpture, collage, and video to explore Jewish culture and ideas. We will engage with different forms of art to explore our connection to Torah stories, poetry, questions about God, and holiday celebrations.
Hebrew Boot Camp: Learning Hebrew Through Movement - Rabbi Micah Get ready to move and learn some simple conversational Hebrew.
