In The Greater Community
Living As Jews On Indigenous Land with Ariel Luckey An Interactive Workshop Exploring Jewish Identity and Indigenous Solidarity
Monday, January 27, 7:00 to 9:00 pm At the North American Indian Center of Boston 105 South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 What does it mean for us as Jews to live on Indigenous land? What can we learn from the ways Jewish and Indigenous histories of genocide are similar, and from our vastly different experiences of continuity of place? Looking at the work of Jews On Ohlone Land in the San Francisco Bay Area as a case study, this interactive workshop invites participants to reflect critically on who we are and where we live. Through exploration of our own Jewish text and genealogy, the history of colonization in the United States, and contemporary Indigenous testimony and activism, we’ll explore what we can do to partner with Indigenous communities and deepen our connection to the land we live on. We will learn about ongoing local Native campaigns and initiatives so that we can strategize about Jewish participation in Native solidarity movements in the Boston Area.
